La Mesa is a short nine-mile drive from San Diego in beautiful Southern California. The town’s motto is ‘The Jewel of the Hills,”. Approximately 55,000 residents call La Mesa home. The Spanish translation of La Mesa is ‘the plateau,’ suiting the town perfectly hence its geographical location. Because La Mesa sits a short 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean (and closer than San Diego,) the weather is sometimes extreme. Founded in 1869, La Mesa was later incorporated into a town in 1912.
