According to the City of Claremont, there are more than 23,000 trees in the city. Many of these are the American Elm, with its gentle upsweeping of limbs and the Manna Gum, better known as Eucalyptus. You will also find here many White Sapote, Dawn Redwood, Fern-Leaf Ironwood, and Bigleaf Maples dotting the city of trees.
 
Of course, the city is home to Claremont Colleges, as the five major universities are collectively known. With a population just under 50,000, the Colleges are the major employer. Thus, there is considerable need for a highly-educated workforce. Claremont does have a higher-than-average proportion of PhDs as a result.
