North Hills, Calif. – The driver who killed a motorcyclist and fled the scene of the crash on Thursday in North Hills has been arrested while trying to flee the country, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
31-year-old Sandro Edgardo Mendieta was captured near the Mexican border. The police believe Mendieta was trying to flee the country to avoid being arrested following a deadly hit-and-run crash on November 9 that killed a motorcyclist.
Mendieta was driving a 1992 white BMW at high speed when he struck a motorcyclist who was exiting a parking lot.
The motorcyclist died at the scene. Mendieta fled the scene on foot.

North Hills, California (November 9, 2023) – A motorcyclist died in a hit-and-run accident that happened Thursday evening in North Hills.
Los Angeles police responded to the 8600 block of Woodley Avenue, between Parthenia Street and Roscoe Boulevard, after receiving reports of the crash around 6:40 p.m.
A local news source reported that surveillance footage showed a motorcyclist on a Harley Davidson trying to turn left from a strip mall parking lot when they were hit by a white sedan.
The victim died in the crash.
The car drove away after the accident. Police did not provide any description of the suspect driver or vehicle.
