, Calif. – A boy sustained serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle on Franklin Boulevard in South Sacramento Sunday night.

According to the authorities, the wreck happened at around 10:15 p.m. on Franklin Boulevard at Brookfield Drive.

Reportedly, the deputy's K-9 unit was driving through the intersection on a green light when the car was hit by another vehicle making an illegal turn onto Brookfield. The boy who was standing with his father was hit by the car.

The boy suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The father was not injured.

The driver, 23-year-old Damariae Daniel, of the car that made an illegal turn jump out of the car and ran away.

Daniel later turned himself in at the Main Jail.

The wreck remains under investigation.
