Suspected DUI Driver Kills Three Women at Gates Road and Highway 132 near Modesto

Modesto, California (September 28, 2023) – Authorities are investigating a deadly two-vehicle collision caused by a suspected drunk driver near Modesto Thursday morning, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The deadly crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. near Gates Road and Highway 132.
Initial investigation showed that a Lexus, driven by Wyatt Gordon, 49, of Modesto, was speeding when it began to drift onto the highway’s right shoulder. Gordon then tried to swerve back to the left, placing the Lexus directly into the path of an oncoming Hyundai.
Medical personnel responded to the scene, and on arrival, they declared two women, aged 64 and 67 years, in the Hyundai dead. A third woman, who was pinned inside the Lexus, was air-lifted to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Gordon was arrested after investigators determined that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The people in both vehicles were wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
The victims’ identities have been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The incident remains under investigation.
