Mecca, CA – The Riverside County Coroner's Bureau has identified one of the men killed in a traffic collision Thursday afternoon on Highway 111 in Mecca as 45-year-old Emmanuel Guevara of Mecca City.
According to a police report, the incident occurred just after noon on May 7 on state Route 111 south of Avenue 68.
Investigators determined that a southbound blue Honda Civic veered into the to the northbound lane of the highway to pass a slower vehicle when it collided head-on with a blue Acura TL .
The Acura TL then overturned after the collision.
Guevara and the other driver were pronounced dead at the scene.
A female passenger in one of the cars was airlifted to the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for unknown injuries.
It was unclear whether alcohol and drugs played a role in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.

Mecca, CA. – Two people are dead following a head-on collision that occurred on Thursday afternoon in Mecca.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on state Route 111 south of Avenue 68, just after noon.
A blue Honda Civic was southbound when the driver allowed it to drift into a northbound lane to pass a slower vehicle, and collided head-on with a blue Acura TL.
The impact of the collision caused the Acura TL to overturn.
Both drivers were killed in the accident.
A female passenger in the Civic was injured and was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
