Bakersfield Man Killed in Rollover Collision on Highway 99 Identified

, CA. – 35-year-old Luis Antonio Jr. died in a single-vehicle collision that happened last weekend on a highway in Bakersfield, the Kern County Coroner's Office reported.

The incident occurred around 7:38 p.m. on July 11 on Highway 99, south of Kimberlina Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Merced Jr. was driving a 2002 Ford Escape northbound on the highway when he veered towards a northeasterly direction and left the east road edge. The car continued in a northeasterly direction on the dirt shoulder and became airborne as it drove over the dirt berm of the Kimberlina Road onramp to northbound Highway 99.

The Ford eventually crashed into the dirt gore point area north of the onramp and overturned.

Merced Jr., who was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, was ejected onto the south dirt embankment of Kimberlina Road.

The driver died in the accident.

An investigation is ongoing.

Bakersfield, CA – At least one person is dead following a rollover traffic collision on Highway 99 in Bakersfield Friday night.

The incident happened at about 7:39 p.m. on Kimberlina Road near northbound Highway 99.

CHP officials said a gray vehicle possibly tried to take the off-ramp at high speeds and rolled over.

The Kern County Coroner was called to the scene around 7:54 p.m., and CHP said at least one person died in the crash.

The number of people inside the car at the time of the crash was not immediately established.

The crash is under investigation.
