Modesto, CA. – 34-year-old David Torres Garcia died after his car collided with a semi-truck Monday morning at an intersection in Modesto, the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office reported.
The wreck occurred around 10:14 a.m. at South Carpenter Road and West Monte Vista Avenue.
According to investigators, Torres Garcia, a Turlock resident, was driving a Toyota Camry eastbound on Monte Vista Avenue when he entered the intersection with Carpenter Road and got hit by a 2020 Freightliner three-axle tractor-trailer heading southbound.
The big rig driver, 54-year-old Julio Hernandez of Fresno, had the right of way and was not required to stop when the Camry pulled directly into the path of the big rig.
Torres Garcia died in the accident. He was the only occupant of the Camry.
Police said both drivers were wearing their safety belts.
Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be contributing factors.
The roadway was closed following the accident.

Modesto, CA – A 34-year-old man was killed after crashing into a big rig at an intersection just south of Modesto Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred at about 10:15 a.m. at the intersection of South Carpenter Road and Monte Vista Avenue.
The Turlock man was driving a Toyota Camry when he pulled out into the intersection and came directly into the path of a semi-truck. CHP said the big rig slammed into the driver's side of the Camry.
The Turlock man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.
No additional information was provided.
The crash is under investigation.
