Cathedral City, CA – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly collision involving a big rig on Interstate 10 in Cathedral City Thursday morning.
The collision happened at about 6:47 a.m. on Interstate 10 E, east of Date Palm Drive.
According to CHP, a big rig and multiple other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Authorities said the semi-truck was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 when, for some reason, it drove toward the center divider and over the guardrail, into the eastbound side and rolled over, hitting several vehicles.
CHP officials said two men – the driver of a Mercury SUV and a passenger in a Toyota Camry – were ejected from the vehicles during the incident. The two men were killed in the crash.
The identities of the two deceased men have not been released.
No additional information is available at this time.
All eastbound lanes of the freeway were shut down, and the closure was expected to take several hours.
An investigation into the fatal collision is underway.
