Santa Maria, CA. – A pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon near a Target parking lot in Santa Maria.
The crash was reported around 3:45 p.m. in the 200 block of East Betteravia Road.
The Santa Maria Police Department, the Santa Maria Fire Department, and an American Medical Response ambulance crew responded to the scene.
An initial investigation revealed that the driver of a white sedan was traveling south in the Target parking lot near the former David's Bridal shop. The driver allegedly lost control of the car and slammed into a bus shelter, causing it to overturn onto its roof.
A female pedestrian who was on the sidewalk at that time was hit by the sedan.
The victim sustained critical injuries. She was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center in unknown condition.
The driver suffered minor injuries.
SMPD's Traffic Bureau is investigating the accident.
