A total of six other people were injured in the crash. Two of the patients, identified as Jose Maria Rodriguez Garcia, 55, and Nicole Virginia Rodriguez, 44, both from Coos Bay, were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Coos County, OR – The authorities have released the names of people killed and those injured after four vehicles collided on Highway 101 in Coos County on Friday afternoon.

The Oregon State Police identified the deceased victims as Manual Samuel Starr, 38, and Shatara Rosemarie Holmes, 39, both from Coos Bay.

A total of six other people were injured in the crash. Two of the patients, identified as Jose Maria Rodriguez Garcia, 55, and Nicole Virginia Rodriguez, 44, both from Coos Bay, were hospitalized with serious injuries.

The remaining four patients – Jose Rodriguez Chase Jr., 20, of Coos Bay, Lori Priest, 61, of Lake Stevens, Washington, a 14-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old boy – suffered minor injuries.

The deadly crash happened on Friday, July 4, 2025, at approximately 1:06 p.m. on southbound Highway 101 near Lakeside and involved four vehicles, according to the Oregon State Police.

OSP said a beige Kia Optima, driven by Manual Starr,  was traveling northbound when, for some reason, it crossed the centerline and sideswiped a southbound black Toyota Corolla, driven by Kent McQuillen, 61, of Florence, before colliding head-on with a black Dodge Ram driven by Jose Garcia.

Lori Priest was driving a Subaru Outback southbound and was unable to avoid the collision, and also collided head-on with the Kia.

Coos County, OR – Two people are dead and several others are injured following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 101 in Coos County on the Fourth of July.

The deadly crash happened on Friday, July 4, 2025, at approximately 1:06 p.m. on southbound Highway 101 near Lakeside and involved four vehicles, according to the Oregon State Police.

OSP said a beige Kia Optima was traveling northbound when, for some reason, it crossed the centerline and sideswiped a southbound black Toyota Corolla before colliding head-on with a black Dodge Ram.

A silver Subaru Outback traveling southbound was unable to avoid the collision and also collided head-on with the Kia. 

The driver Kia and a rear-seat passenger of the Kai were pronounced deceased at the scene. The deceased victims' child – a seven-month-old female infant – did not appear to be injured, but was taken to a local hospital, OSP said.

The driver of the Dodge Ram was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The front passenger of the Ram was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

Three other passengers of the Ram including a 3-year-old boy, sustained minor injuries.  

The driver of the Subaru also suffered minor injuries. Two Subaru passengers were not injured.

The driver of the Toyota was also not injured.

The highway was closed four hours as investigators worked at the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
