Laurie Walters Killed in Apache Junction Crash on US 60 near Goldfield Road

Apache Junction, AZ – The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), has identified the person who was killed in a wrong-way traffic collision in Apache Junction Friday night.

The DPS identified the wrong-way driver as Laurie Ann Walters, a 71-year-old resident of Apache Junction.

The deadly collision happened at about 9 p.m. on July 18 on U.S. 60 and Goldfield Road.

One person is dead, and another is in the hospital after a wrong-way crash in Apache Junction on Friday night, and authorities believe impairment may be involved.

Authorities said Laurie Walters was driving a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV eastbound in the westbound lanes of U.S. 60 and collided head-on with a black Volkswagen Jetta Sedan.

Firefighters from the Superstition Fire and Medical District responded to the scene and extricated both drivers from their vehicles.

Walters and the second driver were transported to the hospital where Walters later died.

Investigators say impairment is suspected to be a factor in the collision.
