The deadly collision happened around 2 a.m. on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway, just north of Moraga Drive.

Los Angeles County, CA – The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has identified the man who was killed in a crash that also claimed the life of LAPD Sgt. Shiou Deng 53.
The Medical Examiner identified the victim as 34-year-old Jesus Garcia.
Detectives said Garcia was involved in a solo vehicle crash at about 2 a.m. on Monday, June 23 on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway, just north of Moraga Drive.
Sgt. Shiou Deng came upon the traffic collision and stopped his patrol SUV leaving the rear lights on to help Garcia.
When Denge exited the patrol vehicle, he and the cruiser were hit by a vehicle operated by Mario Bickham. Bickham's vehicle also struck Garcia who was standing outside his vehicle on the freeway.
Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. Sgt. Deng was transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where later died.
Bickham was also hospitalized in unknown condition.

Los Angeles County, CA – Two people, including a veteran Los Angeles police sergeant, were killed following a traffic collision on I-405 in Brentwood early Monday.
The deadly collision happened around 2 a.m. on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway, just north of Moraga Drive.
Los Angeles Police Department said, 53-year-old Sgt. Shiou Deng came upon a traffic collision on the southbound side of 405. Sgt. Deng stopped his patrol SUV to help the involved motorists.
The sergeant reportedly activated his rear amber lights to slow traffic coming from behind him, and protect motorists involved in the crash. He then exited his vehicle and was hit by another vehicle.
Deng was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where later died.
Another person in the initial collision, a man believed to be in his mid-30s, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A third person was hospitalized following the crash.
No additional information was provided.
The crash is under investigation.
