Coalinga, CA. – A man died in a crash involving a big rig that happened late Monday afternoon on a freeway near Coalinga, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5, north of Highway 198.
An initial investigation revealed that a man driving a 2008 Honda Civic northbound on I-5 veered off the roadway towards the center median, and the car started to spin counterclockwise into the path of a southbound Freightliner Cascadia truck tractor.
The Honda was hit by the big rig.
The driver of the Honda died at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 24-year-old Manteca resident, was not injured.
CHP is investigating the accident.
