Bakersfield, CA. – 34-year-old Cristhian Francisco Leon Covarrubias died after his car crashed into a power pole early Sunday morning northeast of Shafter, the Kern County Coroner's Office reported.
The accident occurred around 2:54 a.m. on Kimberlina Road west of Wallace Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Covarrubias, a Wasco resident, was driving a 2006 Nissan Maxima eastbound on Kimberlina Road when, for an unknown reason, he veered northeast and left the roadway, crashing into a power pole.
The driver got ejected from the car, sustaining fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:51 a.m.
CHP is investigating to determine the cause of the crash.
