According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported around 10:04 p.m. on East Baker Road near State Route 88.
A car reportedly hit a tree and split into several pieces. The wreckage caught fire, and items inside were exploding and throwing debris into the roadway.
San Joaquin County firefighters responded to the scene.
At least one person died in the crash, the report said.
A flatbed tow truck was dispatched to the scene to remove four pieces of the car's chassis and other debris.
The crash is under investigation.
