According to the California Highway Patrol, the pileup was reported around 1:45 a.m. on the westbound 580 Freeway, just west of the Regatta Boulevard on-ramp.
Richmond, CA. – Eleven people were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle collision involving a hit-and-run driver that happened early Sunday morning on a freeway in Richmond.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the pileup was reported around 1:45 a.m. on the westbound 580 Freeway, just west of the Regatta Boulevard on-ramp.
Five vehicles were involved in the collision.
One of the drivers fled the scene on foot into the bushes.
Richmond police officers and firefighters responded to the scene.
The firefighters evaluated the motorists for injuries.
Eleven patients were transported to hospitals with varying degrees of injuries.
All westbound lanes of the 580 Freeway west of Regatta Boulevard were blocked following the accident.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
