Bakersfield, CA – The California Highway Patrol has released new details regarding a deadly traffic collision that occurred on Highway 119 Tuesday afternoon.
According to the CHP, the incident was reported around 4:45 p.m. on May 13 on Taft Highway, east of Tupman Road.
An initial investigation revealed that a 2014 Ford Explorer, operated by a 38-year-old Taft woman, was traveling westbound on Highway 119, east of Tupman Road.
At the same time, a 2024 Kenworth, operated by a 30-year-old man from Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, was eastbound on 119, east of Tupman Road, approaching the Ford's location.
CHP official said, for some reason, the Ford veered to the left into the eastbound lane, coming directly into the path of the semi-truck, and the two vehicles collided head-on.
After the impact, the Ford continued in a north-westerly direction and came to rest on the north dirt shoulder.
The Taft woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the big rig suffered minor injuries.
No additional details were provided.
The accident remains under investigation.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened near Taft Highway (Highway 119) at Coles Levee Road, at around 4:47 p.m.
A semi-trailer truck and an SUV collided in unclear circumstances. The SUV caught fire after the collision.
One person was killed in the accident.
