Lakeside, CA. – A pedestrian died in hospital hours after he was struck by a car last week in Lakeside, the County Medical Examiner reported.

The accident occurred around 11:45 a.m. Friday on August 30 in the 12584 block of Mapleview Street near Vine Street.

The California Highway Patrol said a male pedestrian was walking southbound across Mapleview Street when he was hit by a vehicle traveling northbound on Vine Street while making a turn onto Mapleview Street.

The driver of the car reportedly did not realize he had hit the decedent and continued driving. When he parked the vehicle at his apartment complex, he found the pedestrian unresponsive beneath the car.

A 911 call was made and rescue personnel responded to the scene.

The victim was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital with multiple injuries.

The pedestrian's condition worsened, and he was pronounced dead at the facility at 3:45 p.m. His city of residence was not mentioned. Authorities will release his name when his next of kin are notified.

CHP officers are investigating the accident.
