Fillmore, CA. – Authorities identified the two people who died in a head-on collision that happened on Christmas Eve in Fillmore as 39-year-old Carlos Perez and 31-year-old Maria Ceja, both from .

The wreck also left three others injured, one critically.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday on eastbound Highway 126 near Fine Road, about half a mile east of the Fillmore Fish Hatchery.

CHP said a 2024 Volvo SUV was traveling west on the highway at about 65mph when it veered across the center median and into opposing traffic.

The Volvo collided head-on with an eastbound black 2019 Lexus.

Perez and Ceja were in the Lexus and died in the crash.

The driver of the Volvo, a 44-year-old Oak View man, suffered critical injuries. He was airlifted to County Medical Center for treatment.

Two passengers in the Volvo – a 35-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman – were taken by ground ambulance to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with moderate injuries.

Two dogs, one from each vehicle, were also killed in the crash. A third dog in the Volvo survived the collision and was picked up by a family member.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the factors that led to the crash.

Fillmore, CA. – Two people were killed in a car crash on Tuesday afternoon in Fillmore.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened around 2:20 p.m. on Highway 126 near Fine Road.

A 44-year-old Oak View man was driving a 2024 Volvo westbound on the highway when he allowed his vehicle to travel into the eastbound lane where it collided head-on with an eastbound 2019 Lexus.

The 39-year-old male driver of the Lexus and his 31-year-old female passenger were killed in the accident.

The Volvo driver was airlifted by helicopter to VCMC in critical condition.

Two other passengers in the Lexus were taken by ambulance to Henry Mayo Memorial Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
