The California Highway Patrol said Andre L. Shih died in the wreck that took place around 9:10 p.m. on Highway 138 at Sayle Road.
Phelan, CA. – 85-year-old Andre L. Shih of Adelanto died in a traffic collision that happened over the weekend on a highway south of Phelan, the San Bernardino County Coroner said.
The California Highway Patrol said the wreck took place around 9:10 p.m. on Highway 138 at Sayle Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Shih was driving a 2006 Ford pickup truck west on Sayle Road at an unknown speed, and a 60-year-old Moreno Valley man was driving a 2022 Nissan east on Highway 138 at 55 mph.
Authorities said Shih made an unsafe turn to the left and crossed into oncoming traffic directly in front of the Nissan.
The front right of the Ford collided with the front of the Nissan. The impact caused the Ford to overturn.
Shih was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man driving the Nissan was treated for minor injuries.
An investigation is ongoing.

San Bernardino, CA. – At least one person was killed in a car accident on Friday night near Phelan in San Bernardino.
The fatal collision happened on Highway 138 near Sayle Road at around 9:13 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Two vehicles were involved in the accident, with the collision reportedly causing one of the cars to overturn onto its roof.
One person was killed in the accident.
