Two Caltrans Contract Workers Hit and Killed by Box Truck on SR-71 in Chino Hills

, CA. – Two Caltrans contract workers died after they were hit by an out-of-control box truck as they were doing cleanup Monday morning along State Route 71 in Hills.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident took place around 8:30 a.m. along the embankment below northbound State Route 71 just past Euclid Avenue.

A crew of about a dozen workers contracted by Caltrans was doing cleanup in the area as part of the governor's Clean California initiative.

A white Ford van that the workers arrived in was parked on the right shoulder when a white box truck sideswiped the van and lost control, going down the hill, where it crashed into two of the Caltrans workers.

One of the two workers died at the scene. 

The second victim was taken to a hospital where they later died.

The box truck driver cooperated with officers. Alcohol was not considered a contributing factor.

CHP officers shut down at least two lanes of the highway during an investigation.

Chino Hills, CA. – Authorities are investigating a deadly traffic collision on Highway 71 in Monday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at around 8:39 a.m. on State Route 71 at Euclid Avenue.

Reports indicated that a white minivan collided with a semi-truck in unclear circumstances.

One person was killed in the accident, police said.

The identity of the deceased was not immediately disclosed.

More information about the crash was not provided.

The cause of the mishap is under investigation.
