A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a GMC Denali SUV was having a medical emergency when he lost control of the vehicle and hit Hernandez and his USPS truck as he was sorting mail outside the vehicle.

Sonoma County Postal Worker Killed in Crash Near Santa Rosa Intersection

, CA. – 33-year-old Irvin Hernandez of Santa Rosa, a United States Postal Service employee, died when he was struck by an out-of-control vehicle while outside his vehicle Monday afternoon in Santa Rosa.

The Santa Rosa Police Department said the accident occurred around 5:05 p.m. at Northpoint Parkway and Corrigan Street.

Police officers and medical personnel responded to the area and found Hernandez lying in the middle of Northpoint Parkway.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV ended up in the front yard of a home on Corrigan Street. The driver was found conscious inside the vehicle. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
