Two People Killed in Multi-Car Accident on Interstate 10 near Washington Street in Palm Desert

, CA – Two people were killed in a Tuesday afternoon multi-vehicle collision on 10 Freeway in Palm Desert, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident was reported at around 1 p.m. on Interstate 10 near Washington Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a white Toyota was traveling westbound on the freeway in the second lane when for unknown reasons, the driver abruptly turned the vehicle to the right shoulder and collided with a blue semi-truck and trailer in the next lane.

The impact caused the driver of the white Toyota to collide with a red disabled semi-truck and trailer which was broken down on the right shoulder.

The blue semi-truck then collided with the repair truck and its driver, who was working on the other disabled semi-truck.

The maintenance repair driver and the driver of the Toyota were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The identities of the deceased were not immediately disclosed.

The collision caused two westbound lanes of the interstate to be blocked, and traffic was diverted to Varner Road.

All lanes were reopened at around 6:30 p.m.

Additional details regarding the mishap were not provided.

An investigation is ongoing.
