The preliminary investigation indicated Bird was riding a bicycle northbound in the slow lane of the freeway when he was struck from behind by a northbound Volvo commercial motor vehicle and trailer, operated by Raymond Archuleta Jr., 39, of Portland.
Linn County, OR. – Ryan Lee Bird, 40, of Eugene, was killed in a bicycle crash on Interstate 5 in Linn County early Monday morning.
According to the Oregon State Police, the crash was reported at around 1:18 a.m. September 9 on 5 Freeway near milepost 214.
The preliminary investigation indicated Bird was riding a bicycle northbound in the slow lane of the freeway when he was struck from behind by a northbound Volvo commercial motor vehicle and trailer, operated by Raymond Archuleta Jr., 39, of Portland.
Bird was declared deceased at the scene while Archuleta Jr. was uninjured.
The incident impacted the freeway for about three hours during the on-site investigation.
