Reportedly, a silver Nissan Rogue, operated by Marjett Charlem Schille, 76, of Central Point, was traveling northbound on the highway when it attempted to make a left turn on Scenic Avenue against a flashing yellow light.
Jackson County, OR. – 75-year-old Robert Michael Lewis of Central Point was killed after a car accident last month on Highway 99 in Jackson County last week Thursday afternoon.
The Oregon State Police received reports regarding a deadly auto-car accident at around 2:19 p.m. August 29on State Route 99 at Scenic Avenue near Central Point.
Reportedly, a silver Nissan Rogue, operated by Marjett Charlem Schille, 76, of Central Point, was traveling northbound on the highway when it attempted to make a left turn on Scenic Avenue against a flashing yellow light.
A Tan Chevrolet C25, driven by Michael Anthony Culmone, 21, of Gold Hill, was entering the intersection heading southbound on the highway on a green light when the vehicles collided nearly head-on, leaving the roadway and crashing into a pedestrian pole.
Schille and a passenger, Lewis were transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where Lewis later died and Schille remained hospitalized with serious injuries.
Culmone was also transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Nissan operator was cited for failing to obey a traffic control device.
No additional details regarding the mishap were provided.
An investigation is underway.
