Rafael Chavez Killed in Collision on Indio Boulevard near Flowers Street in Indio

Riverside County, California (September 19, 2023) – One person died in a two-vehicle collision that knocked down a power pole in Indio on Sunday afternoon.

The deadly collision happened at around 2:30 p.m. on Indio Boulevard, east of Flowers Street, according to the Indio Police Department.

A black pickup truck reportedly did a u-turn in front of a Jeep, causing the Jeep to veer off the roadway and crash into a power pole.

The Jeep driver, 23-year-old Rafael Chavez, was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to the hospital with severe injuries.

Sadly, the Coachella man succumbed to his injuries.

The pickup truck driver was hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
