Pilot Killed, Driver Injured in Plane Crash Near Buchanan Field Airport

, Calif. – A pilot was killed and a driver was injured after a small plane crashed and struck a vehicle at an intersection near Buchanan Field Airport Tuesday morning.

Authorities say the Van's Aircraft RV-6 single-engine plane crashed and came to rest at the intersection of Concord Avenue and Diamond Boulevard at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 30.

According to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire), a student pilot, who was operating the small plane, lost power after taking off from a practice touch-and-go landing. The pilot tried to return to the airport, but the plane stalled and crashed hitting at least two vehicles at the intersection.

Con Fire confirmed that the pilot died in the crash. The victim's identity was not immediately released. The pilot was the sole occupant of the plane at the time of the crash.

A driver of one of the involved vehicles sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The accident remains under investigation.
