Redding, CA. – 44-year-old Jessica Remedios was arrested after a deadly pedestrian accident that happened Thursday afternoon in Redding.
According to the Redding Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:54 p.m. on Lake Boulevard and Clay Street.
Police officers responded to the area after they were notified about a pedestrian crash.
The officers found a pedestrian lying on the side of the roadway.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics.
An initial investigation revealed that the pedestrian was walking along the shoulder of Lake Boulevard pushing a shopping cart when Remedios hit her while driving a Honda sedan westbound.
Police said Remedios, a Redding resident, failed to stop after hitting the pedestrian and continued home.
Officers later located and contacted the suspect at her home. The driver was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence causing bodily injury or death, and felony hit-and-run.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
