Cathedral City, CA – A driver was hospitalized after a Saturday night car crash at Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City.
The mishap was reported at around 10:40 p.m. December 14 at Date Palm Drive and Buddy Ridgers Avenue, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.
Fermin Melendez-Guerra, 46, was driving his car south on Date Palm Drive when he failed to stop at a red light at Buddy Rogers Drive and collided with a second vehicle, which was turning north on Date Palm Drive from Buddy Rogers Drive.
The driver of the second car was transported by the paramedics to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
Guerra fled the crash site and was later located.
He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run and felony DUI. The Cathedral City resident was subsequently transported to the Riverside County Jail in Indio for booking.
The incident remains under investigation.
