According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:02 p.m. on westbound Highway 50, just east of Mather Field Road.
Two vehicles were involved in the crash.
One of the cars with children inside had its entire front end damaged.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene and found one person with major injuries. The patient was hospitalized in an unknown condition.
CHP officers are investigating to determine the cause of the collision.
