LAPD Officer Darrell Shamily and Passenger Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Roscoe Boulevard in Northridge

Los Angeles, California (November 4, 2023) – An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer and his passenger were killed in a DUI traffic Collision in Northridge early Saturday morning, according to a police report.
The deadly crash happened at about 1:19 a.m. at 18101 Roscoe Boulevard near Lindley Avenue.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, a 20-year-old man operating a 4-door BMW was going at a speed of more than 100 mph when the collision occurred. The driver, who police say was under the influence at the time of the crash, also may have run either a red light or a stop sign.
Responding crews found three people trapped in vehicles, with one of the cars lodged against a building.
According to LAFD paramedics, an off-duty LAPD officer, identified as Darrell Cunningham Shamily, and his front-seat passenger sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Shamily and the passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other people were taken to hospital with less serious injuries. One of the patients was an off-duty San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy. The deputy was in Shamily’s car at the time of the crash. The 20-year-old DUI driver was also hospitalized.
According to the LAPD spokesperson, Shamily was a 5-year veteran of the force. He is survived by a fiancee and two sons aged 3 and 6 years.

Los Angeles, California (November 4, 2023) – Two people are dead after a two-vehicle collision that left three people critically injured in Northridge early Saturday morning.
At around 1:19 a.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to reports of a traffic collision on 18101 Roscoe Boulevard near Lindley Avenue.
Two cars collided on the roadway, with the impact causing one of the cars to shear a fire hydrant.

Firefighters responded to the incident and extricated the victims who were trapped in the wreckage.
Two people were pronounced dead at the accident scene.
Three other people were seriously injured in the collision and were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
