A mother and her adult son were standing on a sidewalk in Westlake when a driver fatally hit them Sunday afternoon
Los Angeles, Calif. – A mother and son died when they were struck by a hit-and-run driver Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles' Westlake area, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Wilshire Boulevard at South Burlington Avenue.
LAPD said a driver was heading eastbound on Wilshire when, for an unknown reason, the car hit two people standing on the sidewalk at South Burlington.
Responding emergency personnel pronounced the adult son dead at the scene and transported his mother to the hospital. The mother also later died from her injuries.
Authorities said the driver fled the scene, but witnesses alerted an officer in the area, and they were able to apprehend the male suspect.
No other details were available, but an investigation is ongoing.
