Worker Killed at General Dynamics NASSCO on Harbor Drive Identified

San Diego, CA. – The San Diego County Department of Medical Examiner's Office identified the worker who died in an industrial accident that happened Monday afternoon along San Diego's waterfront as JC Hernandez Adame.

The San Diego man was involved in the accident at around 12:15 p.m. in the 2798 block of East Harbor Drive at General Dynamic's National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO).

According to authorities, Adame was at work when, during the early afternoon hours, safety personnel conducted a walk-through at the employee's workspace. About five minutes later, a loud sound and Adame yelling for help were overheard.

Several coworkers responded to Adame's workspace and found him lying supine on the concrete floor with a steel foundation piece lying on his torso.

The coworkers lifted the steel foundation off the victim and called 911. The coworkers then started resuscitative efforts on the unresponsive man.

Paramedics responded to the scene shortly after and took over the life-saving measures.

Adame failed to respond to the life-saving efforts and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Medical Examiner's Office said Adame died at 12:53 p.m. from crush injuries of the torso.

The Harbor Police Department and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the accident.
