Santa Maria, CA. – 60-year-old Mathew Venable of Santa Maria was identified as a victim killed in a head-on collision on Skyway Drive in Santa Maria last month.
The Santa Maria Police responded to the incident at around 1:15 a.m. August 25 on Skyway Drive at Auto Park Drive.
Eduardo Chavez Hernandez, 41, of Lompoc, was driving on Skyway Drive and failed to navigate a curve in the road.
Hernandez's vehicle traveled west in the eastbound lane of Skyway Drive and collided head on with Venable's car.
Venable suffered life-threatening injuries and died five days after the crash.
A passenger in Hernandez's vehicle sustained moderate injuries requiring sutures for a laceration to his head.
Hernandez was arrested and booked for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and felony DUI crash causing great bodily injury.
The incident remains under investigation.
