Man Killed in Fiery Crash on 8 Freeway near Second Street in El Cajon

El Cajon, Calif. – A wrong-way driver was killed in a crash that left a child seriously injured over the weekend in El Cajon.

The fatal crash happened around 7:40 p.m. on January 28, on Interstate 8 Freeway near Second Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A man was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on the westbound lanes of the freeway when he made an unsafe turn to the right and crashed into a concrete guardrail wall and caught fire.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Authorities say the impact of the collision sent chunks of concrete debris toward several northbound vehicles.
