Oakland, Calif. – Authorities have identified the man who was struck by a vehicle after getting out a vehicle late Sunday Night on Highway 13 in Oakland has been identified as 18-year-old Arif Mohammed from New York City.
According to the CHP, a Zipcar was Zipcar was involved in a crash with a black sedan on southbound Highway 13, south of Lincoln Avenue just before 11 p.m. on November 19.
The Zipcar came to a stop in the slow lane while the driver of the sedan fled the scene, CHP officials say.
A few moments after the initial crash, two men, the driver and passenger of the Zipcar, got out of the car and stood nearby.
Moments later, another black sedan came up on the stalled vehicle. The driver slammed on their brakes and swerved to the right to avoid hitting the Zipcar and struck the passenger who was standing on the right shoulder.
The passenger, identified as 18-year-old Arif Mohammed from New York City was killed in the crash, according to the CHP.
The driver of the second sedan fled the scene after hitting Arif. The Zipcar driver was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.

Oakland, Calif. – One was hit and killed by a vehicle on Highway 13 in Oakland late Sunday night.
The deadly crash was reported at about 10:46 p.m. on southbound Highway 13, just south of Lincoln Avenue.
According to the Oakland Police Department, a party called saying his friend had been struck by a black sedan.
Oakland police learned that a person was struck by the sedan after getting out of another vehicle.
As per the police, the person who was struck succumbed to their injuries. It was clear if the vehicle from which the victim alighted was in the roadway.
The police did not say whether the victim died at the scene or at a hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
