Leah Nyakundi Killed, Henry Ellingsen Injured in Port Angeles Crash on US Highway 101 near Delguzzi Drive

Port Angeles, WA.- Leah Nyakundi, 34, of Lacey, was killed in a car collision in Port Angeles on Monday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The wreck happened on US Highway 101 near Delguzzi Drive at about 1:40 p.m. August 12.

The WSP said Nyakundi was driving a black 2019 Mercedes GLS eastbound on Highway 101 when she rear-ended a light blue 2007 Toyota Prius driven by Henry Ellingsen, 58, of Port Angeles.

The Mercedes then went across the centerline, left the roadway, and ended up in a ditch, where it slammed into a tree.

Nyakundi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ellingsen was hurt in the collision and was transported to Olympic Medical Center for treatment.

The roadway was shut down for at least three hours as investigators worked at the scene.

The incident is under investigation.
