Jose Lopez Among Five Injured in Encino Accident on 101 Freeway near 405 Freeway
Encino, California (August 13, 2021) – Jose Garcia Lopez, of San Diego was among several people injured in a deadly wrong-way collision on Thursday evening in Encino, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident happened just before 7:10 p.m. August 12, on southbound 101 Freeway near 405 Freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Cesar Iban Torres, 31, of Los Angeles was driving an SUV westbound in the eastbound lanes of the 101 Freeway when he collided head-on with an oncoming 2016 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Lopez.
A woman and four children were passengers in the SUV. The woman, whose identity was not released, was killed in the accident.
The children were taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Lopez complained of pain to his head but it was unclear whether he was hospitalized.
Torres reportedly attempted to flee on foot but was arrested after he tried to resist arrest. He was also taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Multiple lanes were shut down as crews worked at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
