Goodyear, AZ– A motorcyclist was killed in a collision involving a Goodyear police patrol vehicle in Goodyear on Tuesday, according to the authorities.
The incident took place on Estrella Parkway and Fillmore Street on October 23.
Authorities said the patrol vehicle, which had its lights and sirens on at the time, entered the intersection westbound against a red light and was hit by a motorcycle driven by Jacob Vela, 38.
Vela was not wearing a helmet and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The officer was treated for minor injuries.
Authorities said speed and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle were believed to be factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
