Francisco Santana ID’d as Man Killed in Bakersfield Accident on Highway 99 near Highway 58

Bakersfield, California (August 9, 2021) – The man who was killed in a traffic accident on Thursday night in Bakersfield has been identified as Francisco Hernandez Santana, 58, of Farmersville, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

The incident took place at around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, August 5, on Highway 99 near the eastbound Highway 58 on-ramp.

CHP said Santana was driving a 2005 Ford sedan south on Highway 99 at an unsafe speed when he crashed into the rear of a 2012 Ford two-axle truck that was slowing in the area due to a previous crash.

Santana was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by firefighters. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The operator of the 2012 Ford had minor injuries and sought own treatment.

The collision is under investigation.
