Lake Elsinore, CA. – 57-year-old Desmond Gallagher has been identified as the pedestrian who died after being struck by a car on Thursday night in Lake Elsinore.
The fatal auto-pedestrian accident happened on State Route 74, west of Ardenwood Way, at around 9:27 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Lake Elsinore man was reportedly pushing a shopping cart in the area and was hit by a 2018 Nissan Versa that made an unsafe right turn.
Gallagher was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
The motorist fled the scene but was later located and arrested on suspicion of DUI, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
