1 Killed in Otay Mesa Crash on Otay Mesa Road and Cactus Road

Otay Mesa, California (October 27, 2023) – The driver of a car died after colliding with a semi-truck Thursday evening at an intersection in Otay Mesa, the San Diego Police Department said.
The wreck was reported around 6:42 a.m. on the 6900 block of Otay Mesa Road near Cactus Road.
According to SDPD, a 37-year-old man was driving a semi-truck eastbound on Otay Mesa when he stopped at a red light at the intersection with Cactus in the right lane.
Another man was, at the same time, driving a 2016 Chevy Malibu eastbound in the right lane behind the big rig.
When the light turned green, the semi-truck driver proceeded to enter the intersection.
Authorities said for an unknown reason, the Chevy rear-ended the big rig. The rear of the trailer penetrated the Chevy’s windshield.
Emergency personnel pronounced the Chevy driver dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.
Investigators did not immediately establish the cause of the accident.
