Deadly Big Rig Accident on State Route 65 in Kern County

Kern County, Calif. – One person died, and another was hospitalized after a big rig accident that happened Friday evening in Kern County, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck was reported around 5:30 p.m. on State Route 65 near State Route 155.

A red and white big rig collided with a white car, and both vehicles went off the roadway onto the east side road.

The semi was pulling an empty 53-foot-long box trailer and ended up about 50 feet down an embankment after the first impact.

One party was reportedly trapped in the wreckage.

Emergency personnel responded and pronounced one person dead.

At least one other person was transported to Adventist Health Delano by Hall Ambulance with unspecified injuries.

The Animal Control Unit was requested to respond to take a Labrador Retriever involved in the accident. It was unclear if the dog was injured.

Authorities are investigating to establish what factors contributed to the collision.
