Daniel Raper ID’d as Man Killed in US 101 Crash in Del Norte County

Del Norte County, California (August 9, 2021) – Daniel Raper, 66, of Crescent City, has been identified as the man who was killed in a traffic collision in Del Norte County on Friday afternoon, according to a CHP report.
The wreck happened at around 1:45 p.m. August 6, on US 101.
According to the CHP report, Raper was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer northbound on US 101 when he went across the double yellow lines and crashed head-on into an oncoming 2017 Acura MDX driven by Xiangping Zhang, 56, of Irvine.

Raper was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
Zhang and one of his passengers, Edward Zhang, 12, of Irvine, sustained minor injuries. Another passenger, Ling Yang, 48, also of Irvine, had moderate injuries.
The three patients were taken to Sutter Coast Hospital for treatment.
CHP said alcohol and drugs were not suspected in the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
