Jackson County, OR – Chalino Tellez Cortez,19, of Phoenix, was killed in a traffic collision on Interstate 5 in Jackson County Friday morning.
According to the Oregon State Police, the wreck happened at around 10:53 a.m. December 13 on 5 Freeway near milepost 33.
A preliminary investigation indicated a Jackson County Deputy observed a Suzuki GSX-R1000, operated by Cortez traveling northbound at a high rate of speed.
The Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however the operator did not stop. The Suzuki struck the trailer of a Peterbilt commercial motor vehicle, driven by Gurjunder Singh,28, of Yuba City (CA), in the fast lane.
Cortez was declared deceased at the scene.
The operator of the Peterbilt Singh was not injured.
The highway was impacted for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation.
An investigation is ongoing.
