According to the Oregon State Police, the incident was reported at around 11:47 a.m. November 25 on State Route 42 near milepost 10.4.
Coos County, OR – Brandon Smith 32, of Coos Bay, was killed and Dana Salmon,32, of Myrtle Point, seriously injured in a car crash on Highway 42 in Coos County late Monday morning.
According to the Oregon State Police, the incident was reported at around 11:47 a.m. November 25 on State Route 42 near milepost 10.4.
A preliminary investigation indicated a BMW sedan operated by Smith was headed westbound on the highway when, for unknown reasons, it went into an uncontrolled spin, traveled into the eastbound lanes, and collided with an eastbound Toyota Corolla, driven by Salmon.
Both vehicles came to a stop within the eastbound lanes. The BMW then became engulfed in flames.
Smith was declared deceased at the scene.
Salmon was transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries.
The highway was impacted for approximately four hours during the on-scene investigation.
The OSP is investigating the incident to determine the cause.
