A preliminary investigation indicated the cyclist was traveling eastbound on East California Ave and attempted to make a northbound turn onto South Tulare Street. The bicyclist then traveled directly into the path of a westbound Honda on East California Ave and the two ultimately collided.
Bakersfield, CA. – A bicyclist was killed in a traffic collision Sunday night on East California Avenue in Bakersfield.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash occurred at around 10 p.m. on East California Avenue and South Tulare Street.
A preliminary investigation indicated the cyclist was traveling eastbound on East California Ave and attempted to make a northbound turn onto South Tulare Street. The bicyclist then traveled directly into the path of a westbound Honda on East California Ave and the two ultimately collided.
The victim, only identified as a man, was killed in the wreck.
The driver of the Honda stayed at the scene and cooperated with BPD's investigation.
According to officials, speed and impairment were not factors in the collision.
An investigation is underway.
