A gray SUV and a gray sedan were involved in a possible head-on collision.
Good Samaritans moved an injured female occupant from one of the cars.
The driver of one of the vehicles was stuck inside but conscious.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene and helped at least one person who was severely injured in the accident.
Investigators did not immediately determine the cause of the crash.
Both lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours following the wreck.
