According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck took place around 1:30 a.m. on southbound Interstate 5 north of the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
Oceanside, CA. – At least one person died, and several others were hospitalized after a traffic collision that happened early Wednesday morning in Oceanside.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck took place around 1:30 a.m. on southbound Interstate 5 north of the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
An SUV and a sedan collided for an unknown reason. Both vehicles veered off the roadway after the initial impact and struck a tractor-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder.
The occupants in both vehicles got trapped inside.
Firefighters responded to the scene and used the Jaws of Life to free the victims from the wreckage.
At least one person in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two helicopters were dispatched to the scene to airlift those who sustained injuries. The report said two occupants in the SUV and the lone occupant of the sedan were taken to the hospital. The patients' extent of injuries was not mentioned.
Authorities are investigating the accident.
